I would first rush a few farms just to build up population then add manufacturing once you have a sufficient population to work. Research your colonization and economic branches and if you have enough points rush reseraching some techs for economics.

You need to expand as well early in the game, rush build some colony ships. Explore and survey also as there are many anomalies that give credits and research bonuses.
