I work for one of Focus Pointe’s competitors in New Jersey and we do not sell any information from our respondents. Perhaps we are in the minority, but I don’t think so. I am new to the industry, so perhaps I am not completely correct, and other companies are shadier than.
I can only speak for the company I work for, but we are extremely careful with our database and any information respondents provide. If you fill out an online survey from us, it is used by us to identify individuals who may qualify based on the screener provided by our clients. We do not do anything else with your information, and all identifying information last name, phone number, email, etc is kept from the clients and does not leave our offices.
Focus groups and most online surveys are two completely different aspects of market research, as one is to find qualitative data while the other is for quantitative data. I suppose focusgroup. Something seems like it doesn’t add up.
I just think that your initial comment that «focus groups are usually scams» is very irresponsible. As someone who is studying marketing I would expect you would learn the value of qualitative research and that it’s actually used for research, and not typically a scam and would be able to separate it from online surveys.
Okay I just want to say that some sites you can work around getting disqualified, as I only get disqualified 1 out of 10 surveys, but I know there is some sites that do this, and you get disqualified a lot, and honestly swag bucks is one of them, that’s why I tell people not to do surveys on that site. Dailies, yes, anything else no. Honestly yes the sites make more money then you do, by you doing the survey.
If you want to make as much as them make your own site is the best thing I can say about this. I’ve done a few surveys for them over the course of the last five years and I’ve probably been accepted into about two or three focus groups per year. I invariably get paid via gift card but I reckon I’ve probably made a grand or two from them that way.
It helps that I’m in New York and all the focus groups I go to are physical, in person focus groups. I’ve done Focus Pointe in-person groups as. Pay used to be better years ago for less time spent.
